Pan in the Community, INC. was founded in April 1999 by Anthony and Anita Mc Farlane, they migrated from Trinidad and Tobago in 1992. This Organization was formed so that the steel drums, referred to or called "pans" could be used as the medium of music in which young people could be refocused into a more positive behaviour. This organization is managed by a Board of Directors. The Board of Directors serve for two consecutive terms before the next election.

It is a community program that teaches young people how to play the steel drums. The steel drums are the only musical instrument created in the 20th century that has been internationally accepted into the musical world.The steel drums were invented and developed in Trinidad and Tobago. Today, throughout the world, the steel band is a feature in schools, community centres, and where ever they can be housed and used to create the sweet music which can vary from Jazz, gospel and R&B, to reggae, Hip Hop, classical.

In this organization, the steel drum is the medium by which the young people are given the opportunity to redirect their lives and focus on something positive. To be dedicated, disciplined, sociable, attentive, responsible, well mannered, and courteous are all attributes demonstrated and expected of all participants in this program. Good school grades are one of the prerequisites of the student. Students are not only taught how to play the steel drums but also many other social traits that are so lacking in our society today.

This program caters for young people from various backgrounds, including the under privileged from high risk communities. Emphasis has been placed on these individuals with the intention that they will be able to interact with the privileged few and develop a friendship that will encourage positive thinking and acceptable behaviour. The involvement of the parents and the rest of the community will also act as a stabilizing factor in the lives of these young people. Their self confidence and the ability to work with their peers will be developed as they begin to perform in the public. To be identified as a member of St. Veronicas Youth Steel Orchestra will also boost their self image. This opportunity will be granted to those with the potential and the necessary interest.

Pan in the Community, Inc. supplies "pans", and holds workshops on request. "Learn to play pan" classes for all ages are also held throughout the year. We will also visit your organization, church, or school and set up a three (3) month program (minimum), where we will teach the participants how to play the steel drums.
