On Thursday February 7, 2008 the St. Veronicas Youth Steel Orchestra performed at the White House for the Helping America's Youth Program.  On this day the President signed an Executive Order establishing the Interagency Working Group on Youth Programs.  This program which was initiated three years ago by the President was chaired by Mrs. Laura Bush.  The signing of the Executive Order was to ensure that the program will continue by the administrators to come.

The Gold Room of the East Wing of the White House came alive as the St. Veronicas Youth Steel Orchestra performed for the President, Mrs. Bush, and the invited guest.   The President and Mrs. Bush tapped their feet to the sweet sounds of the St. Veronicas Youth Steel Orchestra as they performed "Save the Last Dance".  At the conclusion of the performance the President and Mrs. Bush joined the orchestra on stage, hugged the members, and took the opportunity to play the steel drum.

This was indeed our greatest moment in our performing career.  Special thanks must be given to Ms. Sarah Gesiriech, Education Advisor to the Office of the First Lady, Office of the Secretary U.S. Department of Education for allowing us this opportuniy, and to Ms. Rebecca Ayer, Deputy Associate Director for Projects and Policy for ensuing that we were well taken care off.  The members who performed on this historical occasion were Kish, Jonathan, Gregory, Antoinette, Sade, Carol, Ayanna, and Elan, accompanied by Anthony and Anita Mc Farlane.

St. Veronicas Youth Steel Orchestra could be the first youth steel band performing in the White House, and possibly the first steel band in years, if not, the first steel band ever in the history of the White House.  What a day in the life of the steel drum, history was created.
